Treasurer Message – June 2022

Many WIs generously donate funds to local charities and from time to time it’s a good thing to make sure that this is being done in keeping with our Constitution. A quick check of our Values and Objects, easily found in the Constitution and Rules, reveals nothing about us being a fund-raising organisation. It is only when a WI has surplus funds at the end of their financial year that WIs may consider making a donation in this way. It is not correct WI practice to raise funds for a named charity, fundraising is for ourselves to be spent on members in line with WI Values and Objects. When, at your year end, your members agree to donate from surplus funds, any receiving charity must share our Values and Objects and be able to spend the donation locally.
