The Birth of Middlesbrough
A Rich Digital Tapestry of Middlesbrough Social History
This talk is set to a backdrop of Google Earth giving a sense of immersion in the place I’m describing. An Internet connection is needed for this, but I can bring a device with me.
We will how the railways gave birth to Middlesbrough and how the first steam locomotive was shipped to Russia and how the convoy was attacked by wolves. You’ll hear about a Middlesbrough connection to Mauritius and a little-known story about where LS Lowry really began his famous painting. You will hear about the hard lives of the early settlers in industrial Middlesbrough as well as how the Football Club was formed and the first kickabout in Albert Park.
