News from our Bursary winner…
Here is an email received from Libby Pollard who was our last bursary winner and is studying journalism at Sunderland Univers ity. She is obviously doing well and is enjoying the course and all its challenges. I have replied to wish her continuing success and to hearing more from her in her second year.

Hi Marj,
I hope you are all well. Just thought I’d give you an update now that I’ve finished my first year at uni.
I’m pleased to say I have passed my first year and obtained 5 firsts along the way, I’ve also had two articles published on the Spark Sunderland website as well as being out with a PR company which I’m hoping to do more with over the summer.
I’ve really enjoyed my first year and I’m looking forward to doing podcasting and PR in September too.
I hope you all have a lovely summer and I look forward to giving you more updates in my second year.

What to do after you have had your Annual Meeting.
Ensure MCS is up to date. Update any information on MCS amending any changes to officers or other positions and any meeting times / venues. Add any new members or amend any changes to existing members details and delete any members who have not renewed or changed from full to dual (or vice
versa). Please send a copy of your Financial Statement and Annual Report form to Cresswell House with a copy of your current programme. If your WI does not have an MCS Rep, please contact the Office and Nancy will arrange that for you.

Embroidery Group
This group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at Cresswell House from 10:30 to 14:30. If you are interested in embroidery we would welcome new members to come join us experience not necessary. Thinking Differently Event – Susan Wake
As part of the wider Thinking Differently campaign, Norham WI decided to hold a public awareness event in partnership with the North Northumberland Branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) on Wednesday 5 April 2023 . This w as very well received with over 40 members of the public attending. Julie Wilson is an expert in the field of autism and ADHD, and she gave an extremely informative and, at times, amusing talk. She was accompanied by Grace Wilce who gave us a fascinating and very vivid insight into how life feels for her as a teenager with autism and ADHD. North Northumberland is a very rural area, and it is often difficult for people to know what support is available and how to access that support. This session was to not only raise awareness of autism and AD HD in girls and women but to also give those attending the opportun ity to ask questions; have one to one discussions with Julie and Grace; and, to learn about the support available from the NAS.
Our WI received many thanks from those attending and through donations made at the event we were able to present the North Northumberland
Branch of NAS with £82.36 to help them continue with their vital work.
Success for Shotley
Shotley WI entered the Northumberland County Show . This year the WI cooperative theme was Farmers Market and, they did an excellent entry and were placed second in the competition.
Half a Century Celebration and a Coronation – Marion McLeod
This is a photo of 2 May, when Marj attended our 50th anniversary, combined with a Coronation celebration.
The banner behind her which took many hours to make, was made by the Bygate Ladies as a celebration of our anniversary.
We spent a lovely evening having afternoon tea at the end of which Corinne, our president, unveiled a card sent by Queen Camilla, sent to congratulate us on our 50th anniversary!

Morpeth Town WI – Sue Emery A big thank you from the Morpeth Town WI members, who attended the John Lewis evening on Wednesday 14 June.
We all had a great time shopping and bagging a few gems in the company of like-minded friends. We all agreed that it was a memorable evening and one we would certainly support again in the future. Maybe a Christmas one??? Thank you for all your hard work arranging the evening.
