Hello ladies, it doesn’t seem a month since I was doing the last Newsletter but it definitely must have been and by the time you read this I am sure that you will all have enjoyed delicious pancakes on Tuesday 4th March (not that pancakes should ever be just for Shrove Tuesday!)
Those of you who are very eagle eyed will have noticed that last month I promised you a big variety of topics that we hope to cover this year and one of them is science which I am ashamed to say has been sidelined a little in recent times but that is about to change. One of our Board of Trustee members, Susan Robinson, has a science background and has teamed up with Dr Helen Pye of Newcastle East WI to become our science coordinators who are ready to bring some exciting events to you all. Helen’s background is in Marine Science and, as we have a wonderful coastline in Northumberland you can expect something involving our beaches along the way. I met up with them to discuss their thoughts and I know you will enjoy what they hope to put on so watch out in future Newsletters for some science surprises.
Your secretary will now have received the application form for the Doxford Hall event on 28th May so please get your names in as soon as possible for one of our legendary lunches. We hope to have the next one in the western part of our Federation but are still coordinating our prospective speaker and date.
It is our intention to use different venues in different areas of the Federation to make it less distance for some members to travel but of course you can attend any or all of the events if you want to and enjoy meeting up with friends from other WIs whilst having a lovely lunch followed by listening to a range of speakers on very different topics.
For those of you who bought one of the Rothbury Calendars with some of their members striking a very discreet nude pose, as done by the original Calendar Girls twenty five years ago, I am sure they would like me to thank you for your support. I have one in my kitchen and it makes me smile every day especially as I was invited to the “official launch” last year and saw some extra shots of fellow members behind stone walls ready to cover up and preserve the model’s modesty after the shot was taken. Well done again ladies.
Please remember that you can send in any items about things you have been doing and wherever possible Dee will get it onto our website to showcase what you and your WI do.
By the time I write the next chat the nights will be lighter and we will all be looking forward to the clock changing and hopefully some lovely warm weather.
Marj x
