Ladies, get ready to learn about a local speciality in the North East of England … the not so humble, dietary essential the Stottie. We are
going to celebrate National Stottie Week, at Cresswell House on 17 February 2024. Kevin Johnson, will show us how to make the Stottie from scratch, then he will show us how to bake tasty hams to go into them, as well as a pease pudding along with a no cook chutney. You will eat the creations on the day, so be prepared !! You will learn a little of the history of this creation as well as how it got its name….. no need for a packed lunch on this day I suspect! Cost will be £15 a head, closing date will be 30 January, it’s a bit tight I know but its so going to be worth it. Yellow sheet out in this mailing. Come along at 10am for a 10:30 start, hot drinks on arrival. Additional drinks will be served along with the stottie tastings. Please come along and support the Craft Committee in their first event of the year.
Early warning of a treat-filled Saturday, on 23 March to celebrate the arrival of Easter, we will be having an array of sweet treats created for us in the Cresswell House kitchen by clever Kevin Johnson – there will be cream, ganache, fresh fruits and maybe lemon curd, obviously chocolate! The yellow sheet is in this mailing. Closing date is 5 March 2024. As you would expect you will get to taste everything that’s made and if you can’t manage to eat it all, bags will be provided for you to take home and enjoy later. Plan for a packed lunch just to absorb some of the sugar! Priced at £17.50 with a 10 for 10:30 start for hot drinks on arrival and at lunch break too.
The Craft Committee, with agreement of the Board of Trustees, are going to be holding a series of fundraising events to pay for the purchase and installation of television screens in the demo kitchen. So, instead of having to stand up and peer over, or have the tutor tilt pans so much the contents are liable to escape, you will be able to sit comfortably and see exactly what is going on from one of the two screens we are planning to install on either side of the hob unit. These events will be clearly identified as fundraisers for the televisions and along with the raffle held on those days we are hoping to raise the predicted £800 within the year, unless one of us wins the lottery or Santa gives us a very unexpected gift!
On Saturday 18 November Alison Scrimshaw and Susan Tilt led a group of ladies in making fantastic festive door wreaths. As you can see by the pictures a very successful day was had by all, ‘when can we do it again’ came the cry.
On the topic of Santa, can the whole Craft Committee wish you all a very Merry Christmas and crafty bountiful beautiful New Year and we really do hope we will see you at our events in 2024.
