What a delight it is to be able to write this Newsletter with snowdrops, crocus and daffodils open and the daylight getting a little longer each day.
When I say it doesn’t seem five minutes since my last message it really is true with the March Newsletter. January is a long month before the February Newsletter goes out but, in sharp contrast, February this year without the extra day a leap year affords creates a short turn around for the March one. But as with all good WI things, the Newsletter will be good to go as the saying goes.
Since the last Newsletter the Federation have received another generous donation to funds from North Gosforth WI and our very grateful thanks go to them. Also thanks to Otterburn WI who invited members of the Board to help them celebrate their 100th birthday and they did celebrate in style! Thank you for inviting us to join you.
You will remember that last month I mentioned the “long time coming” event with John Lewis at their Eldon Square shop, well here are the details. The event will take place on Wednesday 14 June and will be an exclusive event for the WI between 6.00 and 8.00pm. The store will only be open on the ground floor for beauty and first floor for fashion and will involve demonstrations and fashion shows. There is an application form in with the Secretary’s mailing with all the details on and it really does promise to be a lovely event.
We are also hoping to hold another Literary Lunch around October, once again at the Hexham Mart with lunch and an author, and of course a raffle. So look out for more details in future Newsletters.
September will see the return of the Federation Quiz with heats being held on Thursday 21 September around the Federation and the final this year at Cresswell House on Thursday 5 October.
I shall be going around the Federation with the Chairman’s roadshow and will be fitting the dates around our other events and availability of the venues which this year will hopefully be Alnmouth, Bardon Mill, Widdrington and Cresswell House. Once we have finally confirmed the dates and venues the dates will go in the Newsletter and hopefully they will be as successful as last year’s roadshows were.
All of this plus the regular events of the Annual Council Meeting and the Celebration of Christmas Service, events that the other Committees are organising throughout the year, your own WI events and of course a Coronation – it is once again going to be quite a busy year for us all! But of course we wouldn’t want it any other way now would we?
