Here we are with the last Federation News of the year and it has certainly been, like football, a game of two halves. We started in lockdown right up until mid-year and then the restrictions were lifted and WIs began to meet in person once again and what a delight that has been for us all.
Classes have resumed, we have held a very successful Council Meeting and, as I write this on a lovely sunny morning, I am looking forward to our Service of Celebration for Christmas at the refurbished Cathedral of St Nicholas in Newcastle. I know that numbers for this event are excellent and I am looking forward to seeing many of you there.
Several members of Northumberland Board of Trustees, former Federation Chairmen, Advisers and members of Corbridge and other WIs attended the funeral of Kathleen Jones recently and we have received a message of thanks from her family.
As many of you already will know the sale of National Raffle Tickets provide the Federation with a “refund” of 60p for every £1 ticket that we sell and this year we have received a total of £591.28 from National in this respect. Thank you to all of you who bought a ticket and please remember to buy one (or more) next year because, not only does the Federation benefit, one of you may win the first prize of £10,000. After all it was won by a member of Durham Federation only a few years ago.
In the next few weeks I shall be attending the 100th celebrations of Kirkheaton WI and Netherton WI and the 70th of Ashington WI. Unfortunately am unable to attend the 100th of Cornhill WI but I am sure they will enjoy a wonderful party. My good wishes go to all of these WIs and indeed to any WI celebrating a special birthday in the next couple of months. Well done to you all on reaching such a magnificent milestone!
Last year many of us didn’t see family members over Christmas due to the Covid regulations and so my big wish for this Christmas is that we can once again celebrate with family, friends and our own WI members both at home and in our
meeting places to enjoy their company and friendship in person and even to maybe give them a hug.
Finally the Board of Trustees, Nancy and myself wish you the most joyous Christmas and the happiest and healthiest 2022. Please come back in the New Year, refreshed, reinvigorated and ready to join in and enjoy all the WI has to offer you at every level.
