I have to hand it to Nancy, I have no idea where she keeps finding the different photos for each Newsletter, but my guess is that by the Christmas edition I shall no doubt be sporting some sort of Festive headdress that she has found on Clip art or some such thing.
Nattering for Northumberland is now well underway with the very first event being at The Cheviot Group where Janet Laycock officially retired as convenor. I want to say a big thank you to all convenors who do an excellent job for their groups, but I think Janet deserves a round of applause as she has done the job for 25 years. Janet also managed, along with her partner in crime Jen Dover, to get “in the picture” in this month’s WI Life sitting on the wall outside the Bournemouth Conference Centre waving to everyone. What will she do now she has “retired”?
There was a fantastic Midsummer Quiz night at Cresswell House, a trip to Sion Hill Hall, lunch at The Barrasford Arms, a 40th party at Lancaster Park and a visit to Warden in Hexham- phew! The question has been asked about what the “longsuffering” Dave thinks. I can confirm that he is more than likely on a golf course and very happy with the cakes I bring home.
As I am writing this I will be going tonight to meet the ladies of our newest WI in North Shields and I wish them a warm welcome to the WI and every success for the future.
I hope next month to be able to give you details of our new website which is almost ready and I know that many of you will use it to keep up to date with what is happening around the Federation.
It is with much sadness that I have to tell you about two former Federation/Executive members who have died recently, Elizabeth Florence Bell, better known as Ding and Wendy Ions. Our thoughts are with their family, friends and their WIs.
Whey Aye held a fantastic coffee morning and raised a huge amount for Federation and Maggies so a very big thank you to the organisers for both of those events and as you read this the first Chairman’s Coffee Morning will have been held at Heddon on the Wall and so again thank you ladies.
Finally, (thank goodness you all say) I know that many of you don’t meet in August so for any of you going away, I hope you have a lovely holiday and for those who meet, enjoy your August meeting and if you do anything out of the ordinary do let us know or even send it to WI Life and see if Northumberland can get in again.
