Hello ladies, what a joy it was to see so many of you at the Annual Council Meeting and to read the lovely messages afterwards saying how much you had enjoyed the event.  It was fantastic to hear Barbara give us all the wonderful news on the accounts. This is as a result of much money saving work and super events created and you attending – lets keep up the good work.

I would like to thank you all for voting in favour of increasing the annual donation from each WI to allow us to continue giving a bursary every other year to a student in her final year at school or 6th form college who wishes to further her education either by going to College, University or by enrolling on an apprenticeship.

The week following the Council Meeting saw the final of the Federation Quiz and I am delighted to announce that the winners were ‘Simple Minds’ Shotley WI well done ladies.

The Board and I are now looking ahead to the events between now and Christmas and in terms of Federation events the first one will be the trip to Chatsworth House in November. Amazingly we have received so many applications that we will be taking two buses with one going from Hexham and the other from Cresswell House.

The Service of Celebration is progressing well and I know that you will all be delighted to know that the Salvation Army will once again be joining us and following on from that event will be the Christmas Cracker at Cresswell House event so it’s a busy time ahead for all of us

I see in Moira’s piece this month she has done a super job of the importance of READING not only everything in the Newsletter but also event application form details and make sure your members know too. Sadly we at Cresswell House answering the telephone are amazed about the questions that are asked about details previously sent in both the Newsletter and Application forms.

Every month is always different and this one has been no exception as Barbara and I enjoyed celebrating a 100th party with Dilston WI and Moira and I went to Cumberland Cumbria’s Annual Council Meeting in Wigton. It is lovely to attend these events and catch up with friends, in fact, I had a long chat with Susan Grave who was on the same training course as I was down at Denman many years ago when we were taking our first steps as WI Advisers and it started my thought train that what has bound the WI together for over 100 years in the way of its aims and objects will I hope keep us going into the future.

Finally I do have one piece of sad news to pass on mainly to members of the Former Tyneside Federation and that is that Noreen Phillips passed away on 16th September. Noreen was a very active member of the Tyneside Executive and will be fondly remembered by those who knew her and her love for the WI.

It only remains for me to say that I hope to see many of you at one of the great events coming up.
