Hello ladies, and another month has flown by with lots to tell you about and more to look forward to.

Since the last Newsletter life has been pretty hectic for WI Advisers and of course the nights are drawing in so please spare them all a thought if they have paid you a visit on a dark and miserable night. The good news however is that with some new Pupil Advisers joining the ranks 2026 visits may be a little less manic.

In 2024 Hexhamshire WI had an idea for fundraising which involved hosting a pop up cafe in the Village Hall in Whitley Chapel once a month for local members and walkers. Move on and TEN years later I was invited to join them for soup and cake on the first Friday in October. The Hall was packed, the food was fabulous and it was a joy to see what a small idea can lead to when WI ladies put their hearts and souls into a project. Thanks so much for inviting me go to Mary and her girls, long may this continue.

One day later and it was the Annual Council Meeting with fellow members, honoured guests, members from neighbouring Federations and two fantastic speakers in Susan Fulton and Meridith Towne. Susan with her happy disposition and wonderful videos of assistance dogs helping to get the washing out, handing pegs to their “human partner” or even flinging boots into a cupboard was indeed a joy to everyone and my thanks to you all for making a bucket collection reach almost £500 over lunch.

Meridith, and of course her glamorous assistance (aka mum) as always was full of fun, with stories all about some fabrics, bri nylon springs to mind, being best forgotten.

What a treat we enjoyed with lots of positive feedback and messages of thanks and as said on the day my enduring thanks to all

members of the Board of Trustees for all the hard work that went into the event.

Yes I got the weekend off but Barbara and Jenny didn’t as the following day saw the Annual Car Treasure Hunt which this year was won by Morpeth Town so well done to them and thank you to Barbara and Jenny for having a fully loaded WI weekend. Once again it was another busy week with some Annual Meetings to attend but on Wednesday the 8th the Board of Trustees were all invited to join Bardon Mill WI celebrate their 100th birthday with a meal and entertainment at Hexham Mart. It was a fabulous evening and just about everyone made it on to the dance floor at some stage during the evening. We were all great little movers but I think we can maybe forget about going on Strictly for the foreseeable future??

We are now looking forward to seeing Mitch Bridgewater for Lunch with the Chairman which I know will be a fantastic day and later in that same week Barbara and I will be visiting Canon Ruth at the Cathedral to finalise our programme for the service on Thursday 4th December and then Jenny and I will be joining South Gosforth WI as they celebrate their 40th birthday.

Another busy week ahead as at the Board Meeting we shall also be discussing the Castle Howard and York trip which is now fully booked for 23rd/24th November and the Dabble and Dazzle Day on Saturday 29th November.

As you are aware I only mention the events run by the full Federation Board but as you read further on in this Newsletter you will see all the wonderful events that you can apply for under the various committee headings.

I hope to see many of you over the next few weeks as there is so much for you all to come along and enjoy.

Best wishes to you all

Marj
