2026, are you sure?

Yes, here we are ready with another new and exciting year for all our members. I hope that most of you managed to enjoy the Festive Season and for those who found it difficult I hope that you can at least look forward to more happiness in 2026.

In my last chat I mentioned Federation events that we were looking forward to and I can now tell you that the trip to Castle Howard and York was fantastic and the Service of Celebration was once again a huge success. Thanks to your generosity, both the Salvation Army and the Cathedral’s Charity received in excess of £600. You will be pleased to know that we have already booked this years’ service which will be on Thursday 3rd December. Following the great success of the trip we are hoping to have a day trip in June to a lovely private house with plenty of history in North Yorkshire, hopefully spending the morning in Northallerton. This is just to whet your appetite until we can give you a firm date with more details next month.

Talking of more details, you will see that the application form for the next Lunch with the Chairman is now out and it promises to be great. We are using a new venue at The Derwent Manor Hotel which is a beautiful hotel in a lovely setting and once again we will have a private room and the choice of a fabulous menu. Our speaker, Steve Arnott, has been involved with radio, television and theatre in all manner of ways for many years so we are looking forward to welcoming many of you to yet another lovely lunch. Do not miss out on this event and get your forms in as soon as possible.

I now hear you ask, so what are the other exciting events? For a start here’s a question, “What’s your era”? Is it the 60s, 70s or even 80s. What food did you have (remember Vesta curries in packets in the 60’s?) What did you wear, watch and dance to? We are hoping to have three different events, each at a different venue and each featuring a different era. That’s all I can say for now but do keep your eye out for more information on these fun events.

It’s also Federation Quiz time this year so I can tell you that the heats are expected to be in September and hopefully in the next Newsletter I will be able to give you the dates and venues with the final once again being at Cresswell House. So, it only remains for me to tell you that it’s time to start polishing your brains and picking your teams!

Now, a work colleague from a former life once said, “she could cause bother in an empty room”, I am the “she”, so I am putting it out there that we, along with all other Federations and individual WIs need to fundraise. We have a fantastic venue at Cresswell House which we at Federation or any individual can hire at a very reasonable rate so think about it and watch out for more events at “The House” See you all somewhere.
