Hello ladies from a very breezy but sunny day in Whitley Bay and the first thing I want to do is remind you that this Newsletter covers July & August so your next one will not be with you until the beginning of September.

Another reminder is about the four main objects of our wonderful organisation which are, Truth, Tolerance, Friendship & Justice and just to say that when you sign up for an event which you then find is not quite what was expected then ‘Tolerance ‘ should come into play.  Occasionaly  a presentation is not what you were expecting – not necessarily the fault of the speaker.  We always welcome feedback to the Office, but would urge you to refrain from doing it publicly and certainly NOT directly to the speaker as this can cause upset and offence.

Now on to something to be delighted about as members of Shotley WI walked away with many awards at the recent Northumberland Show, well done ladies and keep up the great work. Photos are on our website.

Our recent ‘Lunch with the Chairman’ at Doxford Hall was a fantastic event with over one hundred ladies attending.  You will therefore be delighted to find the application form with your Secretaries for the next similar event at Hexham Mart on Wednesday 15th October where our speaker will be Mitch Bridgewater, a contestant on The Great British Sewing Bee, so get your names down and come along and find out exactly what happens behind the scenes and if Patrick really does smell lovely!

We are already well into the planning for the time of year that begins with ‘C’ and have confirmed our readers for the Service of Celebration at Newcastle Cathedral on Thursday 4th December. If you were there last year you will remember that  one of our members (Rosie from Widdy Woods) had one of her poems read. I am now inviting  any budding poets out there to have one of their poems chosen to be read.  Here is what you need to do: The poem, reasonably short and relevant to the season should be sent to the Office in writing or by e mail to arrive in time for the Board Meeting  on Tuesday 14th October. This gives us  time to consider any applications before the programme is printed. Please ensure you put your full name and WI on the poem and of course the title of your poem.

On that ‘C’ subject the Board members are all gearing up for the Chrtistmas event at Cresswell House on Saturday 29th November where there will be something for everyone. The competition for the Chairman’s challenge is a bauble for the tree (details later in this edition). Start thinking about that now if you wish, and by the next Newsletter we will give you more information on what will be happening. You could be rescuing a teddy from a locked box or buying a box of delight, who knows? As you would expect there will of course be coffee, tea, cake and a delicious lunch available.

Finally I would just like to remind you all about Kevin Thornhill’s wedding show in aid of MND during the week beginning 15th September. Kevin is hiring our rooms to put on a show of wedding dresses and accessories some of which belonged to some of our members and all  the proceeds are going to the MND charity. The Cresswell Cafe will be open and any donations from this will also go to the charity, if any members would like to submit or bring along a photograph of their wedding just to display around the rooms it would be lovely, just make sure you put your name and wedding date with the photograph.  Full details to follow.
