Moorland Group of WI’s host a Ukrainian Evening
An evening of celebrating all things Ukraine was the order of the day on Friday 13th June at Whitley Chapel Parish Hall.
The event was hosted by The Moorland Group of WI’s, consisting of Slaley, Hexhamshire, Shotley, Langley, Newton & Bywell and Whitfield and had a fantastic turnout of members from each plus guests.
We were lucky enough to have The Sunderland Ukraine group come to entertain us and we were treated to singing and dancing, including getting everyone up and joining in at one point! But also, we heard their own personal stories which were deeply moving. This is a strong group of talented individuals, many of whom are women, that have had to leave behind their homes and families, yet their resilience shone through and their smiles were infectious! They also brought with them a variety of traditional Ukraine food to share with us all alongside a pooled supper.
It was a truly uplifting evening and a great opportunity to get together with friends old and new.
