Rothbury WI’s Naked Calendar Launch was a very warm and happy affair attended by over 80 people on 24thOctober. The High Sheriff of Northumberland, Lucia Bridgeman, presented the photographers, Susan Aynsley and Susan Barwood, with flowers and wine as a sign of appreciation for all their hard work on the project.
Katy Nickolls, Secretary of Rothbury WI, gave an illustrated talk about the making of the calendar, which raised quite a few laughs and was well received. She was also presented with flowers and wine in recognition of the time spent managing the completion of the calendar.
Marj Read, President of the Northumberland Federation of Womens’ Institutes, praised the models for their courage and presented them each with large copies of their photographs. Such positive images of older woman are to be applauded.
Emma Arthur of HospiceCare North Northumberland played a new family story video, highlighting the important work done by the hospice in our area. We learnt that the hospice only receives 5% of what it needs financially from the NHS, the rest has to be raised from fundraising and donations, so initiatives like the calendar are vital to the work they do.
Home baking provided by Rothbury and Thropton WI members finished off the event with a lovely tea. Sales of tickets, calendars, raffle tickets and cakes made an impressive £994.85 on the day!
Calendars are selling fast, and a 3rd print run is on the cards. They can be ordered online on the hospice website.
