Local ladies Sarah Sparke and Gemma Common came to Whitley Chapel Parish Hall on Friday 8thNovember to give us some fantastic ideas for floral arrangements, all with the Christmas Season in mind.
The event was hosted by The Moorland Group of WI’s, consisting of Slaley, Hexhamshire, Shotley, Langley, Newton & Bywell and Whitfield and had a fantastic turnout of members from each.
Sarah’s daughter Imogen did a tremendous job of circulating the works of art around the assembled ladies, for a closer look. And works of art they most certainly were! We were shown a wide variety of arrangements, starting with a wreath complete with shot gun cartridges (having been assured by Gemma that the
y were definitely empty ones!)
There was a stunning basket arrangement and a light up bottle with flowers at the base – this proving most popular and certainly some of us were keen to give it a go at home, having been assured by our demonstrators that it was easy to accomplish ourselves!
The magic water beads also proved a hit, although will be forever known as frogspawn to us now!
With a half time break for a wonderful supper and a glass of wine, we were ready to see some more before concluding the evening by raffling off the arrangements for some lucky ladies to take home. It was a wonderfully relaxed evening and a great opportunity to get together with friends old and new.
