Hello ladies, here we are with schools all back for a new year and any WIs that didn’t meet in August also back and ready to enjoy all there is on offer in the coming months.

I  am writing this message earlier than usual as we are changing our posting out to WIs. This is due to changes introduced by Royal Mail which we hope will ensure that all WIs receive their mailing in time for their meeting.

At the beginning of August, Lancaster Park took a pitch at Morpeth Market to advertise their WI and encourage new membership. I went along on a beautiful sunny day. I know they were happy with the day and the follow up is that they held an open evening at the beginning of September. I was invited to go along to encourage any potential members and remind all members of what the WI has to offer. It was a fabulous evening and they have definitely got some new members (maybe even a prospective committee member) so well done to Carol and all at Lancaster Park.

Following that I went up to Bardon Mill WI last week to help out at a jumble sale they were holding to raise money for Maggies in Newcastle. Another great event and hopefully with a nice cheque going off to Maggies. Well done to Moira and all the helpers who must have been very tired, but happy, by the end of the day. It is quite a year for Bardon Mill who are celebrating their 100th birthday in October and myself and the Board wish them very Many Happy Returns on reaching this wonderful milestone

It was very disappointing to have to cancel the Wedding Dress event but beyond our controll. I can only say that it was disappointing for us all, especially as I had dusted down my own dress and pressed it and even found the head dress. I can only imagine your faces now when you would have seen it and said she wasn’t ever that thin was she? Well yes she was and I was bringing along a photo of the happy day to prove that it was me in the dress!

Enough of disappointments. Let us look forward to the fantastic events coming up with The Council Meeting, Lunch with the Chairman, the trip to Castle Howard, the Dabble & Dazzle Christmas Fayre and the Christmas service of celebration at the Cathedral. I hope that you realise that these are all just Federation events and that the other committees have also got so many exciting things for you to enjoy. There are events where you can listen and learn something new or where you come along and participate in something fun like the Jigsaw Competition or make Marzipan Fruits or create a beautiful piece of Blackwork embroidery. Please make sure that you get your applications in by the closing date as this could be the difference between any event taking place or being cancelled.

I will hopefully be seeing many of you in the near future at our Council Meeting on 4th October where we will be bringing along our ”shop” and some “blind” books for sale once again, and where we can take payment by cash, card or cheque. You will also be able to collect your new Federation Yearbook and meet up with friends old and new for a day to remember so please come along and enjoy the day.
