BOUQUETS and BRICKBATS….
HUGE BOUQUETS must go to you – the members who actually turn up every month to support your own WIs, and to those who become committee members to help shape their groups.
Even bigger Bouquets go to the Officers who take on roles that they sometimes didn’t even want…but have a go to keep their much-loved WIs going.
As our organisation – through National Federation – becomes more corporate and structured it’s often difficult for Officers to cope with some of the tasks, and we fully understand how hard it can be to handle a role with efficiency as a volunteer…especially sometimes as a complete rookie.
Please remember that your Membership Support team are here to give support and help with anything…not quite like Superwoman, but we will try hard although the flying still needs work!
The last, massive arrangements go to those members who have sadly had to accept the inevitable Suspension of their much-loved WIs despite working hard and pulling out all of the stops to keep things going. You have our most sincere thanks and admiration and hopefully your members will still remain friends.
Thankfully the BRICKBATS section is small…but heartfelt…
We’re entering the Membership Support ‘silly season’ during which we visit one WI after another, and leave our families searching through the fridge and freezer for food, and wondering if they’ll ever see us again…
Yes, it’s ANNUAL MEETING time. Now you may be thinking that I’ve left out the word ‘General’ but I haven’t – you have Annual Meetings at your WIs, whereas only Public Limited Companies have Annual General Meetings as they are formal, legally mandated meetings for the general membership of the whole organisation to review their performance. Now you all know the difference, so this is a plea – please, please refer to your meetings correctly as Annual Meetings – cross out the middle word and we’ll love you forever!
Remember too that Advisers and Pupil Advisers are not at your meetings to nit-pick or criticise, we’re there to make sure everyone is happy and will gladly offer help wherever it’s needed. We’re great advocates of ‘don’t fix it if it ain’t broke’!!
