If it’s almost Bonfire Night then we are very definitely getting into Christmas territory, but before we do that let’s reflect on some of the fabulous events recently held by the Federation.

The Federation quiz final was won by  Rothbury WI, our congratulations go to them and well done all.

Those of you who attended the Literary Lunch with Dr Mel “comics” Gibson enjoyed a fabulous lunch and afternoon taking us all back to what we read when we were young (and some of us went further back than others). We are hoping next year to add a couple of smaller Literary Lunches with the Chairman which will be held in different venues around the Federation with the usual Big Literary Lunch being held again at Hexham Mart so watch out for more news in the future.

The Annual Council Meeting was once again a lovely event and the feedback from members and visitors from adjoining Federations has been excellent. Thank you for supporting our “shop”, which we will be re-stocking shortly and the Vera Selby stall. The proceeds from both will of course go to Federation funds.

We are now looking forward to The Federation Service of Celebration at the St Nicholas’ Cathedral on Thursday 5th December. I hope to see many of you there as  I know that for some it is regarded as the start of your WI Christmas festivities.

Now that the C word is well and truly out there I can tell you about the voucher available to every member in our Federation from the John Lewis Store in Eldon Square. The voucher is being sent via email to every secretary and she can pass on the details to every member. This can then be either printed off or scanned  to your phone ready for use. We have also sent a couple of actual vouchers to each WI secretary which can be given to anyone unable to access in any other way. The voucher is only available for fashion and is valid up until 24th December, so you can go and get your party dress ready for the big day. Our thanks go to John Lewis for this lovely gesture.

As usual I have been around and about the Federation doing Annual Meetings at Alnmouth, Kingston Sparks and Widdy Woods and attending Cullercoat’s 30th birthday celebrations where as always the welcome is warm and being able to chat to members is great. My thanks to all those WIs.

At the end of the month I shall be attending the National Council Meeting online. Now I deliberately haven’t mentioned the weather but we will all soon be in hats, scarves and gloves, if we are not already. I mentioned casually (OK it was a big hint) to the family that I would like a pair of mustard coloured gloves and then a few days ago whilst making space in a drawer for something I found a box containing a pair of lovely mustard coloured gloves. No the fairies hadn’t been but I had bought them in the sale last year and put them away ready for this year. Fortunate that I found them before I had two pairs of mustard coloured gloves. Do we all do that sort of thing?
