Hello everyone, as the Membership Support Committee starts anew I’m delighted to have been elected as Chair, and will do my best to follow the example set by Prudence Marks and look after all 102 WIs in our Northumberland Federation. Rosie Harden-Vane is now Vice Chair, and thankfully Jenny McLean is continuing in her role of Secretary. Marj Read and Karen Wynne complete our small, but perfectly formed team of Advisers and we’re very committed to helping with any problems or queries that you may have within your Wis. It’s what we do.
As you head towards Annual meetings please remember that your Officers can share roles to make them easier, and we’d appreciate bookings from you as soon as possible so that we can fit everyone in.
Finally, a big thank you for your donations so far for the ongoing appeal “January to June” – your contributions are much appreciated towards the ongoing maintenance of our WI ‘Home’ at Cresswell House.
Have a great time in your own WIs, and don’t forget – we’re here to help when needed x

The Centenary Bursary 2024
As you are aware, requests for applications for our £2,000 bursary have been sent to schools where 6th form girls will be leaving to take up studies in their chosen career field. The information sent out indicated that, at the point of application, the students should have secured a place on their chosen course and their application should be received by us before Friday 15 March 2024. If selected, they would be invited to an informal discussion at our Federation Office in Seaton Burn in April 2024.
However, it has recently come to our attention that, although some students may have received offers from universities/education establishments by March, some will not be given conditional offers until May or even June. Therefore, we have decided to extend the closing date for this bursary until the end of June 2024 with “interviews” being held some time in July 2024.
We do apologise for this but feel we wish to give as many students as possible the opportunity to take advantage of this generous bursary given by our members of the WI, and look forward to receiving applications from any students (daughters, granddaughters, nieces, friends, etc.) you may know who fit the necessary criteria.
