To all the Treasurers, as 2023 comes to a close, thank you for all you hard work, without you WIs would be in a fine mess, but thankfully they are not, as you all try to do the best job possible.
We have had some update news from National regarding the use of Charity numbers. Historically, we had been told that if you had less than £5k income, you didn’t need a Charity number in your own right and that if needed you could use the Federation’s Charity number. We have now been advised DO NOT USE ANY CHARITY NUMBER unless it is yours. So, if applying for grants or funding and you don’t have a Charity number of your own, you advise them that you are an organisation with less than £5k income a year, and therefore do not need a Charity number
The start of the new sub’s year is looming! Can I remind you that subscriptions have to be in at Cresswell House before, yes that’s right before the 1st April. Ideally at least 2 weeks before. So, collection needs to begin in Jan or February, depending on which is your first meeting of the new year. National WI have advised us that unless subscriptions are paid in full, in advance of 1st April, you will not be considered a WI member, so won’t be able to attend WI events locally, at Federation or Nationally, and you will be removed from the MCS after 1st April so won’t receive the WI Life magazine. Plus, will not be covered by WI insurance at WI events.
It all seems a little harsh but they are just reminding us of the need to pay promptly, as some WIs don’t apparently.
I would also like to draw your attention to an issue that has arisen over the pooling of fares (PofF) to cover delegates’ expenses for the Federation Annual Council Meeting. This charge is set at 70p per member and is listed on the affiliation form which accompanies the payment of subs to the Office. However, not all Treasurers are paying this 70p with subsequent new members who join in that sub’s year. It is an amount paid by the WI not the new member(s) but should be included in the cheque sent with the new members’ Federation & National pro rata subs. So, New Year reminder of the need to do this, every 70p helps!
Barbara and I would like to thank all Treasurers for the work they did in 2023 and the work they will be doing in 24. It isn’t an easy task and balancing the books can be a challenge but your efforts are much appreciated and for which the Board of Trustees say thank you.
Merry Christmas & a Happier New Year
