Leisure – July 2023 Update

As I write the sun is still shining and our first Croquet event at Belsay was held last week in perfect conditions and my fingers are crossed for tomorrow. The Summer Quiz was a great success and we all survived a VERY HOT evening in Cresswell House.I daren’t suggest to Marj that air-conditioning is needed. Congratulations to the winning team – The Hubba Bubbas and winners of the booby prize, This, That and The Other. You know who you are!
Both of the above events required a ballot. I do know how frustrating and disappointing this is. It is the task that all committees like least. We have considered alternatives such as “first come first served“ but that has huge implications which would be less equitable. However, an idea was discussed at the Board meeting which might help. So watch this space.
Domino Drive. This popular event is making a return. It will be held at Cresswell House on Monday 16 October from 12-3pm. Cost per member will be £7.50 p.p. which includes a sandwich lunch with tea and coffee. Closing Date – Tuesday 3 October. Application forms are with your Secretary.

Car Treasure Hunt. Sunday 17 September. Closing Date – 21 August. Application forms are definitely now with your Secretary. Please note cost is £9 per person not per car. Please include number of cars on your returned application. Cost is to cover tea, hire of hall and admin.
Between The Covers. Monday 13 November at 1.30pm. Think about choosing a favourite book and tell us why it is special to you. Meanwhile… What book might you love to see turned into a Netflix series? I am waiting for “The Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr.
