They do say that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb and so I hope that as you read this it is definitely true to form and when you read this Newsletter we are really enjoying spring sunshine to go with the clock change that brings lighter evenings.
We are also moving into a busy time for Annual Meetings and meetings where the votes are being taken for this year’s resolution which is about clean rivers. You will see that the Public Affairs Committee have arranged for two speakers to come along to Cresswell House on Tuesday 4 April to tell you more about the subject and to answer any questions you may have. This meeting is extremely important for those of you who will be delegates, be it in person or virtual, for this year’s meeting in Cardiff and I would urge you to come along. Of course the meeting is open to anyone interested in knowing more on the subject and we look forward to seeing you there so do make sure you have sent in your application.
We were very sorry to have to cancel the New Members morning at Cresswell House. This was due to extenuating circumstances of the unavailability of one of the presenters and also the expected poor weather forecast. This event will now take place later in the year and we hope to see you then. Also later in the year, the Membership Support Committee will hold gatherings for Presidents and Secretaries. Application forms are with your Secretary. Can I remind you all here that when an event is cancelled the office will only contact the person given on the application form as a contact point and it is the responsibility of this person to make sure that they contact the members in their own WI who had applied to attend the event.
Also, in the mailing this month are the dates and times for “Marj on the Move”, this year’s version of the Roadshow. Catchy title courtesy of Nancy and now I just have to deliver on the day. We are trying something different this year with one being on a Saturday and the Cresswell House one being in the evening but as always there will be fun, chat, cakes and fabulous raffles so do come along. They will be at Widdrington on Wednesday 21 June 2-4pm, Bardon Mill on Saturday 8 July 2-4pm, Cresswell House on Wednesday 16 August 7-9.00 and our final one at Alnmouth on Wednesday 23 September 2-4pm.
I have recently been chatting with the committee members of Newbiggin by the Sea WI and doing a demonstration at Kingston Sparks WI and on both of these occasions I had the greatest pleasure in meeting two very handsome young men, Kenzie and his Mum Rachel Mullaney (Newbiggin) and Jamie and his Mum Jo Appley (Kingston Sparks). Yes, I know that they were both only months old and yes, they were there with their mums who take an active part in the running of their own WIs but what a joy to know that these adorable little boys will grow up knowing what a fantastic organisation their mums are part of. I hope they might manage to get to one of the “Marj on the Move” events where more of you can get to meet them.
At the beginning of my message I mentioned spring sunshine and I mentioned lambs and I am going to end by mentioning rabbits, in fact the Easter Bunny to be precise.
I would like to wish all of you and your families and friends a lovely Easter and don’t eat too much chocolate!
