Marj’s Christmas Message
It is hard to believe that I am writing the last Newsletter of 2022 and the first one of 2023 already! Where have the last twelve months gone? More importantly what a lot has happened during those twelve months.
It has been a year of great changes both in this country and abroad. Of course Covid is still with us, but not with the same ferocity of a couple of years ago and hopefully you have now all had your booster and flu vaccinations.
We have our final events of the year to look forward to and by the time you read this we shall have enjoyed our Christmas Service at The Cathedral and there will still be the Snowman Beetle and the Christmas Craft day to come for some of you.
The Federation has enjoyed a good year with most events taking place as members wanted to join their friends in the things the WI does best, fun, food and friendship with a good hearty slice of learning something new along the way. Long may this continue for us all and hopefully the programme that the various committees are planning will be rewarded by good attendances. I shall be doing four more themed Chairman’s Roadshows with three different venues in 2023 and the final at Cresswell House. 2023 will also be the year our new Monarch and his Queen Consort, a good WI member herself, will be crowned. So, the bunting will be out once again and some of us will be visiting Memory Lane with our own reminders of the late Queen’s Coronation in 1953. We have of course sadly lost some WIs and loved members during the year but new WIs have opened and will all soon be celebrating their first full year as WI members so well done ladies, I hope you are continuing to enjoy your membership.
Recently I attended a centenary celebration at Bellingham WI which was wonderful, a 1920’s themed night at Newbiggin in celebration of their one hundred years, a tree planting event at Cullercoats WI (one to celebrate the Jubilee of the late Queen and a second to celebrate HM King Charles III) and even appeared on TV following that event! My thanks go to everyone who has been kind enough to invite me to their special events, they are all so different and so equally enjoyable.
I know that many of you have a party at your December meeting and some don’t meet in January so this is just a little gentle reminder that your Annual Subscriptions will be due in April because we all know how quickly that will come around (and bring the lighter evenings too).
Finally, I want to thank the Board of Trustees, WI Advisers and Nancy for all their hard work, support and loyalty throughout 2022 and on their behalf I would like to wish each of you, your family and friends all the joy and happiness of the Festive Season and a peaceful and healthy 2023 where our fun, friendship and fellowship continue to grow.
Marj x
