Happy Birthday Peggy Betty Wilkie
Congratulations to Peggy Henderson who has just celebrated her 98th birthday ! At Haltwhistle WI’s monthly meeting our president, Margaret Findley, presented her with a bouquet of flowers from the members to mark the occasion. Peggy attends meetings regularly
and joins in most events. She is a wonderful lady and has always enjoyed being part of the WI.

The Ovarian Cancer Craftivism Competition – Linda Ames
Denton Dollies WI decided to enter the Ovarian Cancer Craftivism Competition and 13 of the 20 group members attended an afternoon session to pull together the campaign. In total, the members had produced an astonishing 485 leaves in approx. 15 days – some knitted, some crocheted, some cut them from felt and
sewn, some using papercrafts and even some laminated pressed real leaves. A couple of the members had sourced some branches which had been brought down by Storm Arwen. Representing key elements of the design included:
• Leaves with pink pompom buds, representing the ovary and egg.
• Sign explaining that each of the 420 leaves represents 10 of the women who die in the UK each year from ovarian cancer. (420 leaves = 4,200 women)
• Light blue ribbon used for the sign to match the colour of Ovarian Cancer Action (Ovarian.org.uk)
• Use of a branch brought down by Storm Arwen to represent the fact that women are being ‘brought down’ before their time.

Cramlington Clean up – Janine Heslop
Members from Cramlington WI did a litter pick in Cramlington as part of the council’s “great spring clean“ event. It was great fun, and
everyone felt they had made a valuable contribution to the upkeep of the town.

The Queen’s Proggy Mat – Alison Kingston
The Nth Sunderland & Seahouses WI have been busy with plans to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. If you are in the area,
please join us on Thursday the 2 June from 10.00 to 12.00 at the Seahouses Methodist Church Hall where we will be holding a Coffee
Morning with homemade Platinum Jubilee cakes. Also, our Secretary, Sandra Macfarlane, has been very busy creating an amazing Proggy Mat to commemorate the occasion. It has pride of place in the window of Cubbys’s Newsagent, Main Street, Seahouses. It is
certainly very eye-catching, a splash of colour for passers-by.

In memory of Pam Hall – Mary Stephenson
It was with much sadness to announce the recent passing of Pam Hall, an active member of Longhorsley WI since January 1997.
Over the years Pam had been a long-term committee member, serving as President for a number of years. She enjoyed entering, and
sometimes winning, flower arranging, poetry and speaking aloud competitions organised by Northumberland Federation. She was a prime mover behind Longhorsley WIs successful Quiz Team, who won in three successive years 2015-17. She will be sadly missed by all her WI friends here in Longhorsley.
Audrey Lynn – Gill Thompson
We regret to announce the death of Mrs Audrey Lynn, a past President of Darras Hall WI. Audrey was a long-term member of
the WI and a great supporter of the many fundraising events we held. Audrey had been ill for some time when she died on Tuesday 8th March. She will be sadly missed by all our members. Our thoughts are with her daughter Kate, and all her family.
