The festive decorations have been packed away, so how come there is always one you find after you think you have finished? How did you miss it when you checked twice? But the dullness post-Christmas can now end, I have not one but 2 challenges for you this month…! I shall deal with them in date order.
The Jubilee cascade of craft, the Federation is challenging each WI to contribute to the Jubilee Bunting project, details and instructions are in the Secretary’s mailing. This is NOT a competition but a reflection of where your WI is at the moment.
In time of the Jubilee, each WI will have a maximum of six panels sewn to make 3 pennants, which will be sewn on to the ‘ribbon’ by the Craft Committee and will be used to decorate the Federation Jubilee events all though 2022. So, get your minds thinking. The pennants can be done by one person or a group, can tell an ongoing picture story, or be a single pennant covered in sheep if that what you want to do. Your WI name should be there but not dominate and the crafts used can be many or any, your choice your colours.
The Federation will take ownership of the finished bunting, stored in archives after the Jubilee is over, but will be available to be seen as and when requested in future dates….so ladies on your marks….. Go…!
The second challenge has been so long in the planning I had seriously almost given up hope it would ever happen, but the Craft Committee kept my focus and forward planning, a rally of trumpets please… as I announce… Competition Day 2022! When on 18 June Cresswell House will become a glorious collection of crafts, food and flowers on display after they have been judged. Please, after all the months of restrictions, lockdown and being enforced isolation, please contribute something to competition day.
This year and for one year only there will awarded the Kathleen Jones Memorial Cup for the winner to keep. As Kathleen was a dedicated WI judge, it’s right that she is involved in the day one last time. The competition schedule is in the mailing with this article, so please have a look, please support the Federation with your entry, and rest assured Covid restrictions that are in place at the time will be strictly adhered to.
