Hello Ladies, hope you’re all feeling enthusiastic for another WI year ahead and the coming of Spring.
During the recent voting for the resolutions I heard lots of criticism regarding the quality and relevancy of those on offer, but if you have a better idea to put forward please do so! Any WI member can send in a resolution, and they must be sent to Northumberland Federation Office at Cresswell House in time to be examined and sent to National BY September. There’s a lot of helpful information in the Handbook (section 9) – which is available online or hard copies can be ordered from the office. They’re invaluable and every WI should have one.
On the subject of invaluable…I never usually comment on the death of a WI member, but am making an exception for a special lady who died recently at the age of 93. Margaret Huddleston had been a paid up, committed WI member for 80 years, having attended with her Mother from the age of 13. I had the privilege of representing Northumberland Federation of WIs at her Memorial service at Allendale and hearing of her hard life as a hands-on farmer whilst juggling a home, husband and children. Women like Margaret are the backbone of the WI… she set an amazing example and will be long remembered.
To close…in this very dreary dank weather please think twice before using your hosepipe in the rain! I THINK the bans have now, very recently, all been lifted but you’d be risking fines of up to £1000 for using water!!
Enjoy your WIs Ladies, Moira xx
