DESCRIPTION:Over the past few years our Literary Lunches at Hexham Mart have been excellent and so well supported that we decided it was time for more chances to dress up\, meet friends and have a lovely lunch followed by an interesting/amusing talk. In addition to our usual Lunch at The Mart around late September early October we are going to try and have two more Lunch events in different parts of the Federation and here’s the really exciting news\, the first one is all organised. \nThe venue will be Doxford Hall\, on Wednesday 28th May and the speaker will be the delightful Marie Thom and her talk entitled Midlife Dramas in Pyjamas which I know you will love. These new lunches will be called Lunch with the Chairman and the format is virtually the same with this time a two or three course lunch and speaker and still with a raffle. The second lunch is still in the planning stage and will be in a different part of the Federation. The application forms will be in your March mailing giving you plenty of time to buy a new frock! \nCost:  £40 per person.  Closing date:  13th May.

The recommended practice is that this is renewed every three years. \nWe have arranged a course on Saturday 28 September 2024. The tutor will be Kevin Johnson\, a fully accredited trainer. \nThe course will be held at Cresswell House and start promptly at 9.30 am\, tea and coffee will be available beforehand. Please bring a packed lunch. \nThe course includes: Topic A – Introduction to Food Safety; Topic B – Legislation; Topic C – Food Safety Hazards; Topic D – Taking Temperatures Topic; E – Refrigeration\, Chilling\, Holding of Food Topic; F – Cooking\, Hot Holding & Reheating Food; Topic G – Food Handlers; Topic H – Principles of Safe Food Storage; Topic I – Cleaning; Topic J – Food Premises and Equipment. There will be a 30 question multichoice assessment at the end of the day. \nThe fee for the course is £30.00 and your WI can pay the fee. Members are also welcome to take the course on an individual basis. \nIt is an expectation that all WIs will have at least one member who has a current Food Safety certificate unless your Institute never serves food to members or guests. It is particularly important if your WI is ever involved in catering for local events or anything outside of normal meetings. The Food Standards Agency is currently looking at guidelines for catering done on a voluntary basis e.g.\, at charity events and this is your opportunity to be prepared! \nFor further details please see the booking form. SUMMARY:Annual Council Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Annual Council Meeting will be held on Saturday 7 October 2023 in the Performing Arts Centre – The Miller Theatre\, Royal Grammar School\, Eskdale Terrace\, Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 4DX starting at 11am\, doors open from 10am. It will be necessary to apply for observer / visitor tickets.  Tickets are £10 this year for visitors and will be allocated after the closing date of Thursday 22 September.   We must keep a close eye on numbers so please ensure the Office knows you are attending before the Council Meeting. \nPlease note this year on site parking is not available and if coming by car will have pay for on street parking. An alternative is to park one of the Park and Ride centers and take the metro or bus. You can park at the Regent Center and the Q3 bus drops off on Osborne Road. \nPlease return your form by no later than Thursday 22 September if requiring observer tickets.
