SUMMARY:Get to know your sewing machine!
DESCRIPTION:We have all done it at some stage\, invested in a new\, all singing all dancing sewing machine\, and still we just do straight stitches\, are a bit scared to move the dials\, let alone change the sewing foot\, sound familiar? Well\, this session is suitable for all. Bring your sewing machine (and its manual with you\, that’s if you can find it!)\, quality threads any colour you like and please bring a marking pen\, note pad & pencil/pen and your glasses if you wear them. You will need the sewing feet that come with your machine even the weird one you don’t know what it’s for. If your machine is more than one year old\, it will need to be PAT tested and that will be done at the start of the day. The cost of which is incorporated in the final price. \nThe sewing machine MUST be in good working order with a new needle already in position. If\, the tutor deems your machine not to fit this criterion\, you will not be allowed to continue nor will you get a refund but can still observe the class. \nThe class will be run by a very experienced talented and skilled tutor Kim Suleman who is new to the Federation teaching but is well known on TV and around the quilting world for her skills\, so you will be learning from the best! \nClosing date: Tuesday 30 August

DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House and learn from a very skilled knowledgeable experienced tutor Marian Fairless\, how to convert a ball of wool into a sampler of more complex knitting which will have a variety of stitches on it\, see the attached picture. You will have guidance about what the complex pattern codes are and how to make them happen\, so bring a notebook and pen to aid your memory. You may want to bring a packed lunch as this class runs until 2pm\, and as we know learning is hard work. However unlimited tea and coffee will be available to keep you going.  For this class you will need to come with a pair of UK 8 / 6mm knitting needles. A cable needle\, a 50g ball of double knit or Aran wool. DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House on Monday 8th August 10am to be greeted with a hot drink and biscuits then on the dot of 10:30 move into the Demo kitchen to watch and enjoy the near magical creation of a variety of breads.  The baker will be the very experienced talented food creator Kevin Johnson\, who started his food career many years ago and has been responsible for creating fantastic food for everyone from The Royal Navy to the schools and colleges with many points in between. In the demo you will see all the stages of creating beautiful warm aromatic breads\, you will be able to ask questions about what you see as well as takes notes if you so wish. Provided with this demo will be a full recipe sheet to take away. This demo will give you floury baps\, rosemary & cheese tear and share as well as sesame seed rolls. What a way to spend a morning. DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House on 16 July to enjoy a morning in the floral workshop creating a long arrangement themed on ‘Summer’.  The team of Alison Scrimshaw and Susan Tilt will guide you step by step through the creating of a beautiful arrangement. Please bring your scissors and an apron. The mechanics and foliage will be provided along with plenty of hints and tips to improve your skill/knowledge.  You will also need to bring flowers to suit your colour scheme of 7 large headed flowers (possibly roses\, carnations or gerbera) and a bunch of coordinating filler flowers (spray carnations or spray chrysanthemum). Then upon completion you can come down to Cresswell Café and have a summer themed lunch with a little something to quench your thirst after such hard work!  All skillfully prepared by Sue Malloy and her team. DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 26 October Alison Scrimshaw will give a workshop suitable for beginners / intermediate flower arrangers to produce a pumpkin themed floral arrangement.  The price is £14 for up to 10 ladies in each session depending on Covid restrictions. For this workshop you will need to bring 5/7 large blooms (roses\, gerbera or carnation) and some smaller\, filler flowers (spray chrysanthemum or spray carnations) in Autumnal colours\, everything else will be provided for you to create a pumpkin themed arrangement. SUMMARY:National competition to make Her Majesty's birthday card
DESCRIPTION:Royal Greeting Card\nGuidelines for Makers\n1. The craftsperson/maker must be a WI member.\n2. Cards created for the Queen’s Birthday 2022\, must incorporate a current WI campaign using watercolour\ntechniques. The card must include an explanation of the campaign chosen; this can be either written or\nprinted and must be on the back of the card.\n3. The finished card must be sent to the NFWI (address below) along with contact details for the maker including\nemail\, address\, telephone\, WI and federation. Deadline: Friday 25 February 2022\n4. The NFWI Chair of Activities Committee\, with the support and guidance of an external professional\, if necessary\,\nwill select the final maker. The chosen maker will be informed by email.\n5. Commercial items\, such as toppers\, stickers or wording\, should not be used. Branding or manufacture logo’s\nmust not be visible.\n6. The final card dimensions should measure no less than 148 x 210mm (A5) and no more than 210 x 297mm (A4).\n7. Text inside the card must read ‘WI members send their warmest good wishes to you on this very special day’. If\nthe maker choses to leave the inside of the card blank\, this text will be entered by the NFWI on their behalf.\n8. The maker must provide a short-written statement explaining the theory behind their finished piece of work plus a\nbrief bio of themselves. This piece must be written and presented to a high standard worthy of accompanying the\nfinished card.\n9. The finished card must be sent to the NFWI (address below). If the maker wishes to deliver their work by hand\,\narrangements for delivery date and time must be prearranged and agreed with the NFWI.\n10. The finished card will be sent to the NFWI Head Office\, London to be signed by the NFWI Chair\, and\nphotographed before being sent to Buckingham Palace. The card will be sent along with the written piece\ndetailing the maker (refer to point 8).\n11. The maker must ensure the card is wrapped and packaged securely in a box. The box\, containing the card\, will\nbe presented to the palace\, therefore the maker must ensure that the box represents the high standard of the\ncard within.\n12. The NFWI reserves the right to publish images of the finished card\, along with the written statement\, on WI social\nmedia channels\, My WI and in WI Life.\n13. The finished card will be sent to the Palace on behalf of all WI members\, for this reason\, the NFWI will take\nownership and responsibility of the card.\n14.
