DESCRIPTION:The Flying Geese Block is very versatile and is incorporated into many patchwork projects. Some of the techniques are ideal scrap busters whilst others lend themselves to making more blocks quickly. Included in the session will be Pre-cut Fabrics to enable you to practise each of the techniques\, you will also receive instructions for each technique plus a bonus pattern. complete a Patchwork Block which can be turned into a Cushion\, Bag or incorporated into a Quilt. \nYou just have to bring your sewing machine that is in GOOD working order with a new needle already in position. Bring all the sewing feet that come with your machine. See Northumberland News for fuller details. \nThe class will be run by a very experienced talented and skilled tutor Kim Suleman from Six Penny Memories is well known on tv and around the quilting world for her skills\, so you will be learning from the best.! SUMMARY:Get To Know Your Sewing Maching with Some Experience
DESCRIPTION:During this class we explore what your sewing machine is capable of doing and making sure you have the confidence to use it. \nThe session will explore all of the stitches in your machine. You will learn about combining stitches\, inserting zips\, buttonholes\, overcasting and decorative stitches and lots more. The session also includes basic maintenance of the machine. You will be provided with Fabrics\, zips\, and buttons to practise and will leave with instructions to act as a reminder of what was included in the session. If your machine is more than one year old\, it will need to be PAT tested and that will be done at the start of the day. \nThe class will be run by a very experienced talented and skilled tutor Kim Suleman from Six Penny Memories is well known on tv and around the quilting world for her skills\, so you will be learning from the best.! \nThe course will cost £20\, all fabric\, zip\, button and interfacings\, tea and coffee. The date is to be 20 April 2023 at Cresswell House starting at 10 for 10:30 finishing at 12:30 approx.  See Northumberland news for fuller details.  Closing date for applications will be noon 4 April so get those yellow sheets sent in as quick as you can\, the session will be limited numbers but will be repeated if needed. \nCD: 4 April 2023

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday the tenth of December when all through Cresswell House\, not a creature was stirring\, not even a mouse…. The WI ladies came for coffee and chat\, to the Christmas Craft Day expecting a cornucopia of craft! \nThe day starts at 10:00 with tea/coffee as at 10:30 sharp all sessions start. The plan is to be finished at 4:00. Those attending will spend the day doing four festive themed crafts\, from cake toppers to a floral creation to an edible wreath to festive card making!  What more could you want on a chilly December Saturday?  Everything required to complete the crafts will be supplied; all you’ll need is your packed lunch & some festive spirit. Singing of Christmas songs expected but not compulsory. \nClosing Date: 15 November 2022

DESCRIPTION:I am pleased to say that Victoria Connor from the Willow Barn\, has agreed to come again to Cresswell House on Monday 10 October and again on Friday 14 October. Offering repeat sessions only this time you will make willow orbs\, either a big one or two smaller ones. You will need a packed lunch\, sturdy gloves and an apron\, and a little bit of strength. Everything else is provided. Both sessions start at 10 for coffee/tea\, session will run from 10:30 until about 4:30. DESCRIPTION:We have all done it at some stage\, invested in a new\, all singing all dancing sewing machine\, and still we just do straight stitches\, are a bit scared to move the dials\, let alone change the sewing foot\, sound familiar? Well\, this session is suitable for all. Bring your sewing machine (and its manual with you\, that’s if you can find it!)\, quality threads any colour you like and please bring a marking pen\, note pad & pencil/pen and your glasses if you wear them. You will need the sewing feet that come with your machine even the weird one you don’t know what it’s for. If your machine is more than one year old\, it will need to be PAT tested and that will be done at the start of the day. The cost of which is incorporated in the final price. \nThe sewing machine MUST be in good working order with a new needle already in position. If\, the tutor deems your machine not to fit this criterion\, you will not be allowed to continue nor will you get a refund but can still observe the class. \nThe class will be run by a very experienced talented and skilled tutor Kim Suleman who is new to the Federation teaching but is well known on TV and around the quilting world for her skills\, so you will be learning from the best! \nClosing date: Tuesday 30 August

DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House and learn from a very skilled knowledgeable experienced tutor Marian Fairless\, how to convert a ball of wool into a sampler of more complex knitting which will have a variety of stitches on it\, see the attached picture. You will have guidance about what the complex pattern codes are and how to make them happen\, so bring a notebook and pen to aid your memory. You may want to bring a packed lunch as this class runs until 2pm\, and as we know learning is hard work. However unlimited tea and coffee will be available to keep you going.  For this class you will need to come with a pair of UK 8 / 6mm knitting needles. A cable needle\, a 50g ball of double knit or Aran wool. Please cast on 41 stitches and knit 4 rows of single rib starting with P1\, K1.  Numbers are limited so you get the best experience. \nCLOSING DATE: Tuesday 16 August

DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House on Monday 8th August 10am to be greeted with a hot drink and biscuits then on the dot of 10:30 move into the Demo kitchen to watch and enjoy the near magical creation of a variety of breads.  The baker will be the very experienced talented food creator Kevin Johnson\, who started his food career many years ago and has been responsible for creating fantastic food for everyone from The Royal Navy to the schools and colleges with many points in between. In the demo you will see all the stages of creating beautiful warm aromatic breads\, you will be able to ask questions about what you see as well as takes notes if you so wish. Provided with this demo will be a full recipe sheet to take away. This demo will give you floury baps\, rosemary & cheese tear and share as well as sesame seed rolls. What a way to spend a morning. DESCRIPTION:Come to Cresswell House on 16 July to enjoy a morning in the floral workshop creating a long arrangement themed on ‘Summer’.  The team of Alison Scrimshaw and Susan Tilt will guide you step by step through the creating of a beautiful arrangement. Please bring your scissors and an apron. The mechanics and foliage will be provided along with plenty of hints and tips to improve your skill/knowledge.  You will also need to bring flowers to suit your colour scheme of 7 large headed flowers (possibly roses\, carnations or gerbera) and a bunch of coordinating filler flowers (spray carnations or spray chrysanthemum). Then upon completion you can come down to Cresswell Café and have a summer themed lunch with a little something to quench your thirst after such hard work!  All skillfully prepared by Sue Malloy and her team. DESCRIPTION:Well\, after the time we have had with Covid and being isolated\, it’s time to celebrate and make a positive memory of 2021. Join the full Craft Committee in Cresswell House\, with festive songs and mince pies to make a Santa in a Box. \nThis year we are going with making one item\, rather than have everyone moving around. We went for a single item which you will be able to add to your decorations for years to come. Everything you will need is provided\, bar your lunch\, but there is as always plenty of hot drinks and treats to keep you going during the day. \nThe Saturday will start at 10:30 with coffee and the session will run until about 15:30ish. You will not go home with an unfinished article! Numbers are restricted that previous Festive events to give us all a bit more room. The whole day is for £20. \n
